Fernando M. Pimentel-Santos, Rheumatologist in the CHLO, Egas Moniz Hospital, Lisboa, Professor of Medicine / Rheumatology of the Integrated Master in Human Medicine at NOVA Medical School, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa; Principal Investigator at the Chronic Diseases Research Center (CEDOC, NMS|FCM-UNL).

Degree in Human Medicine in 1991 at the Universidade de Lisboa (UL).
Degree in Rheumatology in 1999.
Post-Graduation in Sports Medicine, UL in 2002.
Post-Graduation in Molecular, Comparative and Technologic Genetics, Universidade de Trás-os-Montes (UTAD) in 2005.
Post-Graduation in Health Economics, Católica Lisboa School of Business and Economics, Universidade Católica Portuguesa in 2004
Master of Science in Health Care Management, Católica Lisboa School of Business and Economics, Universidade Católica Portuguesa in 2010.
PhD in “Medicine/ Rheumatology” with “Ankylosing Spondylitis: Genomic and Functional characterization of candidate genes and their clinical significance”, in 2012.

Member of the Portuguese Society of Rheumatology (SPR). Member of 2 major research consortia for AS, the International Genetics of AS (IGAS) and The Ibero-American Registry of Spondyloarthritis (RESPONDIA). Full member of Assessments spondyloarthroarthritis International Society (ASAS), since January 2013. Member of the EULAR Standing Committee on Investigative Rheumatology since 2014.

Editorial Boards and publications: Over 50 papers published in peer-reviewed journals indexed to PubMed/Medline. Invited referee for several journals, including Arthritis and Rheumatism, Annals of Rheumatic Diseases, Arthritis Research Therapy, Arthritis Care and Research, Journal of Rheumatology, Tissue Antigens, Human Genetics, Clinical and Experimental Rheumatology, Clinical Rheumatology, Briefings in Functional Genomics, Molecular Biology Reports, Pharmacogenomics and Acta Reumatológica Portuguesa.

Honours: Several national awards including “Prémio Nunes Correa Verdades de Faria 2016”.
